Premier League side Liverpool are continuing to monitor the progress of Bristol City defender Lloyd Kelly ahead of a potential summer move, according to reports from Football Insider.

The versatile defender has been a target for the Merseyside club since the beginning of January, after putting in an array of impressive displays for the promotion-chasing Robins.

The 20-year-old, who has played nine times for the England under-21 side, has featured 32 times for Lee Johnson’s men this season, as they look to cement their position in the play-off spots.

But reports claim that Jurgen Klopp’s men are continuing to track Kelly ahead of a potential summer move to Anfield, with scouts believed to have been very impressed with the left-back, who can also play at centre-half.

Alberto Moreno and Nathaniel Clyne look set to leave Anfield in the summer, and Kelly’s arrival would certainly cover both bases at right-back and left-back.

The Robins look increasingly likely to secure a place in the top six this season - after a 3-2 home win over West Brom in midweek, they sit sixth in the Sky Bet Championship table, four points clear of Middlesbrough with a game in hand.

The Verdict

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kelly join Liverpool in the summer, as he proving to be far too good for the Championship.

In a way, he reminds me of Joe Gomez, not only because he’s proving himself in the Championship like he also did for Charlton, but because he can play at either full-back or centre-back which makes him an interesting option for Klopp.

City will be resigned to losing him if they don’t go up this season, though they will surely get a lot of money for him if he does leave.
