Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic has rejected the chance to join Middlesbrough, as Tony Pulis looks to add to his squad before the end of the month.

It has been a very tough summer for the Teesside outfit who lost several key players including Ben Gibson, Adama Traore and Patrick Bamford.

That gave Pulis some serious funds to play with in the market, however they struggled to close deals before the transfer deadline closed last week and are now only operating in the loan market.

However, one man they won't be signing is Serbian international Grujic, with the London Evening Standard revealing that the 22-year old was not keen on moving to the Championship.

Whilst the window still has over two weeks to run, it seems likely that the player will move abroad as he also turned down the chance to move to Premier League Cardiff City.

The former Red Star Belgrade player had joined the Welsh side in January and helped them over the line as Neil Warnock's men secured promotion.

The Verdict

This was a very ambitious move from Boro as Grujic has offers from top leagues across the world, but it's still a blow.

Pulis knows that he needs to strengthen his squad and will be worried despite a very strong start to the season as the squad is weak in key areas.

If Grujic has made his mind up, then it's time to look elsewhere as Boro should have a long list of targets.
