The domestic football returns this weekend as we head towards the hectic festive period in this country.

It's the best time of the season for many football fans but one man who might not be feeling the Christmas cheer is Ben Woodburn who's been sat in the cold at Sheffield United.

A bright young talent at Liverpool, this loan was meant to be his next big step but it has not worked out and goal.com are reporting that the Reds are looking at recalling him.

Here, then, we take a look at the situation...

Alfie Burns

It’s hardly a surprise, Liverpool must be furious.

Woodburn is good enough to be playing regularly in the Championship, and it has been a surprise to see Chris Wilder overlook him to the extent he has.

A move elsewhere is needed in the New Year and it wouldn’t surprise me if Woodburn made Wilder look foolish.

Lee Connor

I don’t see this being a problem for United if Liverpool do call back Woodburn.

He’s failed to do anything of note, and is not even getting into the squad at the moment, which suggests Chris Wilder is not seeing anything in training.

When he has played he’s not done anything to get fans excited, and while clearly possessing some talent, I feel he needs to go back to the drawing board in all honesty.

George Dagless

It's been a really frustrating time for all involved.

It was hard to see Woodburn playing given his favoured position and the Blades' wing-back system and so that has proven.

Liverpool won't be happy, Woodburn will feel frustrated and the Blades won't exactly be delighted with how it's gone either.

It would make sense to end it now.
