Liverpool midfielder edging closer to Anfield departure

Reading are edging closer to coming to an agreement with Liverpool to sign Ovie Ejaria on loan for another season, according to journalist, Courtney Friday.

Ejaria spent the second-half of last season on loan with the Royals, and has seemingly made a good impression on manager, Jose Gomes.

It seems highly unlikely that Liverpool will be able to fit him into their squad next term, which has seen the Royals put on high-alert in the race to land his signature.

In total, the creative midfielder made 16 league appearances, scoring once and assisting twice as Reading narrowly avoided relegation from the Championship.

The majority of the Madejski Stadium faithful will be delighted with the contribution that the loanees made last season, as without them, the Royals would have struggled to stay afloat in the second tier of English football.

Gomes recently confirmed to BBC Berkshire that the club have had their transfer embargo lifted, which means that the Reading boss could be busy in the transfer market in the near future.

The Sun had previously revealed that the Royals were under a ‘soft transfer ban’, which saw them have to get permission from the EFL to make any signings.

Reading get their new Championship season underway at home to Sheffield Wednesday, who are still coming to terms with Steve Bruce’s surprise departure.

The Verdict:

This is a promising update from Gomes.

Ejaria really impressed me last season with the Royals, and he’s a player that will feel as though he has unfinished business at the Madejski Stadium.

If they can sign him up for another season, then it’ll be a huge boost to their Championship survival chances next term, as they look to build on some impressive showings towards the end of last year’s campaign.
