Sheffield Wednesday look to have taken Liverpool goalkeeper Ben Williams on trial with him playing for the Owls' U23 side earlier today against Bristol City.

The Owls are having a good season in the Northern section of the Professional Development League with their U23 side and so there's a good chance that Williams will get some good experience in playing for them.

Ultimately, though, if he joined the Owls from the Reds he'd want to play more first team football than he looks likely to get at Anfield but that in itself looks some task.

With both Keiren Westwood and Joe Wildsmith doing well at Hillsborough and good goalkeepers in their own right, Williams would have to really excel.

First of all, though, he needs to get himself signed for the Owls if they want him after he started the game earlier today - as Dom Howson's latest tweet shows:

The Verdict

Much of the attention for Wednesday and the U23's would have been on George Hirst and him starting but it's intriguing that Williams has made an appearance on the team sheet.

The clubs haven't really made much of it in truth but if Williams impresses during his time in Yorkshire maybe he'll make the move.
