Premier League giants Liverpool are looking to beat Leeds United to the signing of French starlet Enzo Valentim.

The 18-year-old is a wanted man this summer after breaking into the first-team at Tours last season, and according to Football Insider, it is Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool who want to snap up the youngster ahead of the chasing pack.

Leeds were credited with an interest in the young defender earlier in the week, but Liverpool's latest statement of intent could spell bad news for Marcelo Bielsa's men.

Liverpool are on something of a youth recruitment drive this summer, with the likes of Harvey Elliott already arriving from Fulham, and manager Jurgen Klopp has reportedly identified Valentim as the next prospect he wants add to the ranks at Anfield.

Valentim would no doubt go into the youth set up with Liverpool if he does indeed seal a move to the Premier League title chasers, while first-team chances at Leeds might also prove hard to come by given Luke Ayling's position in the back four at Elland Road.

However, Valentim might well look at Bielsa's willingness to give young players a run in the first XI, and he could well see this as a deciding factor in his decision making process.

The Verdict

Valentim is obviously a young talent who is highly thought of, but you worry for Leeds really if Liverpool are now showing an interest.

Beating Premier League clubs is hard enough as it is in the current climate and market, and it will be a blow for Bielsa to see Klopp's men now interested.

On the positive side of things though, it's good that Leeds are identifying top talent, and Liverpool targeting Valentim only further cements what a talent he is.
