England and Liverpool legend John Barnes is predicting a comfortable home victory for his former club when they host League Two outfit Carlisle at Anfield tonight.
In an interview with Football League World, Barnes discussed the club's up-and-coming Capital One Cup tie with the Cumbrians. He expects manager Brendan Rodgers to rotate his squad and include some youngsters as well some members of his first team.
"I think they'll be a mixture", said the 51-year old when asked his views on the team. "I don't think the whole eleven is going to play against Villa."
Despite being unsure on which team Rodgers will name, Barnes still expects a comfortable victory for the Reds, "Our second string team should be good enough to beat Carlisle anyway. Great for Carlisle coming to Anfield, a full house, they've been okay in their division but I think that Liverpool will win 3-0."
Barnes, capped 79 times by England, said Carlisle have had a good start to their campaign - they currently sit 10th in League Two having won three of their opening eight league games.
The odds are certainly in favour of Liverpool for tonight's fixture, with the Reds currently 1/8 to beat the League Two side with Titanbet, whilst Carlisle are a sizeable 18/1 to inflict defeat on Brendan Rodgers' side.
Carlisle boss Keith Curle has also caused an upset in the previous round of the cup by beating QPR 2-1 to progress and while the tie at Anfield will be tougher, they will travel to Merseyside confident.
While Barnes expects a comfortable win, he refused to be drawn on the goal scorers. "In games like this it's going to be hard to predict the goal scorers if you don't know the team. On Saturday I could muster a chance of predicting the goal scorers because I know that Benteke, Sturridge and Coutinho are going to play."
