Liverpool have reportedly made an enquiry to Cardiff City over the availability of goalkeeper, Neil Etheridge this summer according to Wales Online.

The Reds are yet to lodge a formal bid for the shot-stopper, but their interest will surely be intriguing for Etheridge.

He was a rare bright spark for Cardiff last season, but couldn't stop them from being relegated back into the Championship after a brief spell in the top-flight.

Etheridge started all of Cardiff's league games and kept ten clean sheets for Neil Warnock's side.

This isn't the first we have heard of Etheridge being linked with a move away from Cardiff, as Aston Villa have already had an £8m bid rejected according to a recent report from Wales Online.

The report claims that Cardiff will only consider offers of £10m or above, as they are keen to retain the services of one of their key players.

But after such an impressive season for the Bluebirds, it seems unlikely that he will remain a Cardiff player for much longer as they adjust to life back in the Championship.

If Etheridge was to arrive at Anfield, then it would surely spell the end of Simon Mignolet's time with the Reds, as Etheridge won't want to be third choice goalkeeper.

It certainly won't be the last we hear of speculation linking the goalkeeper with a move away from Cardiff, so it'll be an interesting but nervous summer ahead if you're a Cardiff supporter.

The Verdict:

This would be a really good signing by Liverpool.

There's no way that Etheridge would be a regular starter for Klopp's side, but he could be a useful backup option to have in their squad for next season.

He's proven in the Premier League and would be a smart signing by the Reds if they win the race to sign him.
