Leeds United could face competition from Liverpool if they're to complete the signing of Ben White this summer, according to The Athletic.

The Brighton defender has been a revelation since arriving at Elland Road last summer and has attracted plenty of plaudits for his role in the Whites' push for promotion.

As you'd expect, White is being tipped for the Premier League next term with his parent club keen to integrate him into the first team fold at the start of next season.

But while Marcelo Bielsa's side will be keen to challenge for his signature, they may face competition from the soon-to-be Premier League champions as well.

Writing for The Athletic, Hay said: "There’s no formal option on him, so Leeds have no right to retain him.

"Given the way his value has increased, you can disregard any thought of Leeds signing White permanently in the Championship but in the Premier League, they could easily get involved in an arm wrestle.

"They’d have the money to compete with other interested clubs.

"Brighton, though, are giving the impression that they want him back. Look out for Liverpool. Their talent scout Andy O’Brien (ex-Leeds) has been watching White closely."

How many of Leeds United's number 10s can you remember?

The verdict

There's no doubt that Ben White will be playing in the Premier League next term.

His form for Leeds United has been impeccable and that means that it's no surprise to see him linked with a move to the top flight next term.

Brighton will be determined to keep hold of their young star, but with Liverpool now sniffing around it could be hard to do.

For Leeds to have any chance they'll need to secure promotion while also convincing the youngster that Elland Road is best place for him to reach the next level.
