Swansea City are holding talks with Liverpool over the short-term future of Rhian Brewster, as they look to retain the striker’s service until the conclusion of the Championship season.

Brewster opted to move to Swansea during the January transfer window, but he’s seen his loan spell in Wales impacted by the EFL’s postponement.

Plans are in place for the 2019/20 season to resume later in the month, which means things will run beyond Swansea’s current agreement with Liverpool over the 20-year-old.

However, The Telegraph report how the Swans and holding talks with Liverpool about extending that deal until the 2019/20 season concludes.

The report states that it is in nobody’s interests for the player to return to Melwood and as long as all parties are happy to continue with the agreement.

Brewster has impressed in a Swansea shirt and in just 11 appearances in the Championship he’d scored four goals, keeping Steve Cooper’s side in play-off contention.

Currently, the Swans sit 11th in the table with nine fixtures remaining, but just three points separates them from sixth-placed Preston North End.

The Verdict

This is great news for Swansea and it is vitally important that they manage to retain Brewster for the remainder of the Championship season.

The 20-year-old has made a huge impact since arriving from Liverpool and with him in something like top form, the Swans have a chance of crashing into the play-offs.

Liverpool sound like they will play ball and getting something confirmed ASAP will be a priority now.
