Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have registered their interest in signing West Brom’s Rekeem Harper according to the Daily Star.
The report claims that the Premier League giants are rivalling Juventus to the potential signing of the 19-year-old.
Harper was impressive in his breakthrough season with the Baggies, as they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League after a defeat to Aston Villa in their play-off semi-final.
The young midfielder made 16 appearances last season, and will be keen to have his long-term future resolved at the earliest of opportunities heading into the new season.
Liverpool and Spurs will both fancy their chances of landing his signature over the summer, although Spurs could potentially be in a stronger position.
It’s been reported by Sky Sports, that Christian Eriksen wants to leave the club before the new season gets underway in August, and Spurs are seemingly looking to find a replacement for the Danish international.
Harper doesn’t have any experience of playing in the Premier League though, and would certainly be a gamble for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
His current deal at the Hawthorns is set to expire at the end of the month, which has heightened interest in his services.
It remains to be seen as to who will win the race to sign Harper, but it’s definitely going to be a closely-fought battle as we head towards pre-season.
I think it’s only a matter of time before he leaves West Brom.
Harper really impressed me last season with a number of strong performances, and didn’t look out of place in senior football.
He’s a player with a bright future ahead of him if his recent performances are anything to go by.
If I was Spurs or Liverpool, I’d be looking to send him back out on loan next season though, as it seems unlikely that either club will be able to offer him regular game time in the first-team.
