Liverpool and Everton are set to go head-to-head over the signing of Charlton youngster Ezri Konsa, according to reports in The Mirror.

Both Jurgen Klopp and Sam Allardyce are said to be big admirers of the 20-year-old, with the pair reportedly willing to spend as much as £5 million to bring the player to the north west this month.

The England U20 World Cup winner is rated as one of the most promising defenders in the Football League, with both Merseyside clubs keen to invest in young British talent in the near future.

Both sides have previous dealings with young stars from Charlton, with Liverpool bringing in Joe Gomez from south London, and Everton completing a big money deal for Ademola Lookman last winter.

The Toffees are said to be in pole position to seal a deal for the player, with head scout Maryn Glover watching the player last month against Blackburn Rovers.

The Verdict

Konsa is one of the most exciting youngsters in the Football League, and appears to have the potential and ability to excel in the Premier League in the near future.

Having picked up Lookman from The Valley last year, Everton are keen to launch another raid on Karl Robinson’s promotion-chasing side, with Konsa likely to be afforded opportunities at Goodison Park.

Allardyce could be keen to tie up a deal this month, and secure the player’s long-term future to the Toffees.
