Sunderland lost ground in the hunt for an automatic promotion spot last night, drawing 0-0 with Barnsley in a game spoiled by blustery conditions.

It was a tough night for the Black Cats, who knew a win would take them to within a point of Daniel Stendel's side with a game in hand. Instead, a dour encounter of few chances ended 0-0, leaving the Tykes four points clear.

It was a frustrating night all round, with conditions certainly not helping the flow of the game. Sunderland fans have remarked on Twitter that they feel the tactics are also not helping their side in attack.

Boasting talented players such as Aiden McGeady, the 32-year-old Eire international, they should surely be doing much better than they are.

There's a train of thought that they're not killing off games quickly enough and that the talent at their disposal is not being utilised properly.

McGeady was one of the few players to come out of last night with any real credit, but amongst the praise are the question as to whether he's being used effectively.
