Lincoln City are interested in signing Blackpool defender Calum MacDonald, according to reputable journalist Alan Nixon.

The Imps are likely to be in the market for another left-back this month, after seeing Harry Toffolo leave the club and reunite with Danny Cowley at Huddersfield Town over a week ago.

Max Melbourne has been a regular in that position under Michael Appleton, but depth will be needed if City are to have a positive second-half of the season.

And, according to Nixon, the Imps are interested in signing Calum MacDonald from Blackpool, who has struggled for regular game time at Bloomfield Road.

Blackpool signed MacDonald from Derby County in the summer after losing Marc Bola to Middlesbrough, but the 22-year-old has made only three league starts for Simon Grayson's side since making the move to Lancashire.

Now, Blackpool have re-signed Bola on loan which could push MacDonald down the pecking order even more, with Lincoln reportedly ready to swoop.

It is claimed that the Tangerines are not keen on losing MacDonald to a League One rival, though, which could cast any potential move in doubt.

Lincoln sit 12th in Sky Bet League One, whilst Blackpool sit three places below them in 15th spot.

The Verdict

I am surprised that MacDonald hasn't really been given a chance to show his true quality at Blackpool, having only made a handful of appearances for the Tangerines this season.

Six league outings just isn't enough for a player, especially at the age of 22, and maybe a move back to the East Midlands and to Lincoln would be the best move for his career at this stage.

Blackpool will obviously be reluctant to lose MacDonald, but Lincoln could definitely tempt them with the right kind of money.

Melbourne has been impressive for the Imps this season, but they need back-up in that area of the pitch for sure.
