Lincoln City are said to be close to completing the signing of Macclesfield Town winger Theo Archibald, according to reports from The Sun.

The 22-year-old came through the ranks at Celtic before joining Brentford in 2017, and after a short loan deal at Forest Green Rovers, he now finds himself back in League Two for good with Macclesfield.

The winger has scored six goals in 33 appearances for the Silkmen since arriving at Moss Rose in the summer, but his future is reportedly up in the air heading into what looks to be an uncertain end to the season.

Reports from The Sun claim that due to wages being paid late, Archibald has won a battle with the EFL to leave Macclesfield and sign for the Imps.

Macclesfield have had their fair share of financial problems in the past. Earlier this season, their players went on strike due to wage issues, which saw Kingstonian knock them out of the FA Cup by four goals to nil.

Lincoln will be hoping for a positive end to the season in League One, with Michael Appleton's side sitting 15th ahead of the final 11 games of their league campaign.

The Verdict

Archibald is a really talented winger who loves to get to the byline and deliver crosses into the box, making him a perfect option for Michael Appleton's side.

It's a shame how his time at Macclesfield looks to have turned out, and they will surely be worrying about finances with fixtures being delayed until April the 30th at the earliest.

Still, a move up to League One could be really good for Archibald's development, and Appleton is the type of manager who could the best out of him.
