Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi is set to join French club Olympique Marseille, Sky Sports News are reporting.

Jordan Amavi is set to complete a loan move to Marseille, Sky sources understand.

As part of the loan deal, Marseille will have an option to buy Jordan Amavi on a permanent transfer at a later date.

After initially rebuffing Marseille's offer of a permanent transfer, Aston Villa are now set to agree a loan fee with the Ligue 1 outfit and sanction his temporary departure.

Jordan Amavi has had a mixed time at Aston Villa.

The attack-minded left back joined the club in summer 2015 and impressed in the Premier League, earning plenty of admirers.

The France under-21 defender then suffered a season-ending injury in November and had to wait until the new Championship season until he made his return in claret and blue.

Last season was blighted by inconsistency as he made 36 appearances.

The 23-year-old has been looking for a move away from Villa Park this summer and proposed deals have fallen through, including a potential move to Sevilla.

The former Nice defender is now set to return to France two years after leaving as he looks posied to join Marseille for their upcoming campaign in the French top division.

The Verdict

Jordan Amavi needs time to get back to the level that he was performing at when he first came to England.

The 23-year-old has shown glimpses of his talent but needs to add some consistency to his game to thrive.

In France, Amavi could return to his best form and this could kick start his career again.
