Former Manchester City and Barcelona midfielder, Yaya Toure has reportedly announced his retirement from football, according to his agent, Dimitri Seluk.
The experienced Ivorian has been a free agent since he had his contract terminated by Greek side, Olympiacos in December 2018, and has seemingly called time on his career.
“Yaya has decided to end his career as a champion,” Seluk revealed.
Sheffield Wednesday defender, Liam Palmer took to Instagram to wish the former Manchester City midfielder all the best in his retirement.
Palmer’s photo came from Sheffield Wednesday’s game with Manchester City back in 2015, a game in which Toure’s team won 2-1 in the FA Cup.
The Owls full-back has been impressive with Steve Bruce’s side this season, and made () appearances for Sheffield Wednesday in an impressive 2019.
The Hillsborough faithful will surely feel that if Bruce had been in charge of the whole of their season, then the Owls could have finished inside the top six.
Palmer and his Sheffield Wednesday team-mates will be switching their attentions to the 2019/2020 season, where they’ll be hoping to go one step further by winning promotion to the Premier League.
What a career he has had.
Toure hasn’t been at the top of his game in recent years since he left Manchester City, but now he feels as though this is the right time to make this call.
One of the great midfielders we’ve had the pleasure of seeing at the top of his game.
