Sheffield Wednesday have been handed an injury boost, with the news that Liam Palmer has returned to training from a spell in the treatment room.

The Scotsman hasn't featured since their defeat to Cardiff City in late December, and will be hoping he can force his way back into the Owls starting XI in the near future as we head towards February.

Palmer took to Instagram to reveal a positive update on his injury, and is evidently pleased to return to training with the Owls squad this month.

Sheffield Wednesday are well in contention to finish inside the top-six this season, with Garry Monk's men currently sat tenth in the Championship table.

The Owls have been in a poor run of form though, and have only won once in their last five league games, which makes for concerning reading.

They'll be looking to get back to winning ways at the earliest of opportunities, so that they can get their play-off bid back on track this term.

Sheffield Wednesday are next in action on Tuesday evening, when they take on Wigan Athletic in a game they'll be expected to pick up three points from.

The Verdict:

It's good to see him back in action for Sheffield Wednesday.

Garry Monk will be keen to have competition for places in his Owls squad, and Palmer will certainly provide that when he is ready to return to the matchday squad.

I'm not sure he'll go straight back into the starting XI though, as Osaze Urhoghide has been hugely impressive since being given an opportunity by Monk.

Palmer faces a real battle to get back into the side, but will be hoping he can make up for lost time as Sheffield Wednesday look to finish inside the play-off places this season.
