Reading will end the year on the back of three-straight wins after winning 2-0 at Preston North End in the Championship yesterday.

The game at Deepdale was settled in the first 16-minutes yesterday, when goals from John Swift and then Lucas Joao had Mark Bowen's Reading 2-0 up.

A second-half onslaught from Preston didn't trouble the Royals who've now won three in a row for the first time this season, and find themselves in 14th in the Championship table for their New Year's day trip to Fulham.

Speaking to www.readingfc.co.uk after the game yesterday, Reading captain Liam Moore was full of praise for his side's performance up North:

"It was close to a perfect away performance. We stuck to the game-plan, we hit them on the break and in the second half, when they had their spells, we defended as a unit - I'm really proud of the boys, it's a fantastic result."

Alex Neil's Preston were unbeaten in four going into the game yesterday, and dropped out of the top six with it.

Reading meanwhile have now surpassed the 30-point-mark for the season and find themselves 11 points off the drop zone, and only seven off the top-six.

The verdict

To end 2019 in the fashion that Reading have, it's testament to the good work that Bowen has done in a short-space of time, and under some real testing circumstances.

Little was expected of the Welshman but he's proving that he has what it takes to be the top dog at a football club, and his Reading side look like they could have a strong second-half of the season.
