Reading have confirmed the capture of Chelsea defender Matt Miazga for the duration of the 2019/20 season following his impressive spell at the club last term.
The USA international was an important figure as the Royals secured their Championship status under Jose Gomes in the second half of last season, and Reading fans will now get the chance to see Miazga across a full campaign.
Miazga completed the paperwork on Monday afternoon to become Reading’s fourth signing of the summer, and he now looks set to reprise his centre-back partnership with Royals skipper Liam Moore.
The duo formed a formidable pairing in defence after Miazga’s January arrival, and Moore has now taken to Twitter in response to the 24-year-old’s return:

The former England U21 international is clearly pleased to see his “old friend” return to the Madejski Stadium, while his Reading teammate Yakou Meite also took the opportunity to publicly welcome Miazga back to the club:
Welcome back mon frere ????????????????

Miazga’s return to Reading is an excellent capture, and it certainly speaks volumes that the Reading players are also delighted to see him return.
The 24-year-old is clearly a popular figure among his Reading teammates after the impact he made last term, so this signing should prove to be a boost for everyone at the club.
Royals fans can start feeling particularly excited about seeing Miazga partner Moore for the duration of a full season, as they possess the qualities to form one of the best defensive partnerships in the division.
It was important that Reading ensured some continuity from their successful second half of the season, so the addition of Miazga is a clear step in the right direction.
