Liam Lindsay has sent a message to Barnsley fans on social media, after completing his move to Stoke City.

The 23-year-old defender was an important player for Barnsley last season and made 46 appearances in all competitions, as Daniel Stendel's side won automatic promotion to the Championship.

The centre-back has joined Stoke for an initial fee of £2million, along with Barnsley teammate and goalkeeper Adam Davies, who joins on a free transfer after his contract at Oakwell expired.

The pair were both instrumental for Barnsley last season, they finished second behind Luton Town and played their part in ensuring that the Tykes had the best defensive record in League One.

Lindsay has posted a message to fans on his personal Twitter feed, saying that he is happy to end his time at the club on a positive note with promotion.

Lindsay joined Bransley from Partick Thistle in 2017 and the defender went on to make 90 appearances for the club during his two seasons at Oakwell.

The defender made 44 appearances for the club in his first season, as Barnsley were relegated from the Championship, but was able to help the club bounce back with promotion last season.

Lindsay could come up against his former teammates when Stoke face Barnsley in the Championship at Oakwell in November.

The Verdict

Lindsay was outstanding for Barnsley last season and he could be a fantastic signing for Stoke.

He already has one season in the Championship under his belt and should be able to make an immediate impact in the second tier for the Potters.

It's a blow for Barnsley to lose such an important player, especially as they have lost their goalkeeper Davies too, but I'm sure fans will appreciate Lindsay's message and wish him the best for the future.
