Leeds United captain Liam Cooper has sent a message of encouragement to on-loan defender Lewie Coyle via Twitter.

Coyle is currently spending his third consecutive season on loan at Fleetwood Town and has been an integral player in their success in League One.

The Trawlermen are fifth in the table as things stand, with at least one game in hand over the majority of the teams in the top six.

Coyle has been a key figure for Joey Barton's side in the 2019/20 campaign–starting every game so far and wearing the captain's armband on occasion.

The 24-year-old's management agency Major League Sports posted a tweet today that revealed just how successful his time with the Cod Army had been over the past few seasons.

Despite spending so long away from Elland Road, it appears Coyle still has a good relationship with players in the Whites squad as Cooper took to Twitter to send a message of encouragement.

Coyle is a product of the Leeds academy and made his debut for the club in the 2015/16 season.

The defender has made 23 appearances for the club in total but has not featured since 2017.

His current loan deal at Fleetwood is set to expire at the end of December, while his contract with Leeds runs until next summer.

The Verdict

Coyle's situation with Leeds and Fleetwood is an unusual one but Cooper's message of encouragement suggests he still has strong relationships with some members of the Whites squad.

With the defender's contract to expire in the summer and his loan set to finish at the end of 2019, you'd expect the two clubs to come to an agreement in January.

Coyle has had an impressive career at Fleetwood so far and it is very difficult to see him spending his near future away from the club.
