Leeds United captain Liam Cooper has taken to Instagram to praise the support shown by the Leeds fans after their late winner against Reading on Tuesday night.
Leeds came into this fixture looking to build on their fine unbeaten run which has seen them finally break into the automatic promotion places in the Championship again at the expense of Preston North End.
Leeds extended their run after an 86th-minute header from Jack Harrison clinched all three points for the travelling side at the Madejski Stadium. The game threatened to fizzle out as a stalemate with both sides lacking quality in the final third for most of the match, which would arguably have been an acceptable result for both sides, given Reading’s league position and Leeds’ terrible record playing in London.
The winner came for Marcelo Bielsa’s side following a piercing counter-attack from a John Swift free-kick that was parried away by Kiko Casilla, to which Leeds made four passes before finding Harrison’s head at the back post.
The win saw Leeds move back to the top of the Championship, ahead of West Brom, who don’t play until Wednesday night against Bristol City at the Hawthorns, putting pressure on Slaven Bilic’s men to keep pace running into the festive schedule.
Following the win, Leeds skipper Liam Cooper took to his Instagram story to appreciate the effort shown by the fans to support their team until the very end after two long away trips in the space of four days:
It’s obvious that Leeds’ support both home and away is up there with the best in the country, and it is great to see that key figures at the club acknowledge the efforts of the fans to make the trip down to Reading on a Tuesday night to support the team.
Cooper and the rest of the team will be hoping the fans can generate another great home atmosphere when the Whites welcome rivals Middlesbrough to Elland Road on Saturday.
