It is a really important stage of the season for Liam Bridcutt, who will be doing everything he can to impress Bolton Wanderers manager Keith Hill at the moment.

The 30-year-old signed for the Trotters on loan in the summer, having made just four appearances for Nottingham Forest in all competitions last season.

Having fallen out of favour under Aitor Karanka and Martin O'Neill last term, it was always likely that he would be on his way out of the City Ground in the summer.

The former Brighton and Leeds midfielder has been an important player for Bolton this term, making eight appearances in all competitions.

Since our last update on Bridcutt, the midfielder has suffered yet another bitterly disappointing injury blow.

Having missed the majority of October and November with injury, Bridcutt hasn't featured for Wanderers since their 7-1 defeat to Accrington Stanley last month.

The midfielder collided with Thibaud Verlinden in training last week, and has since been ruled out of action for up to "several" weeks with yet another shoulder injury.

He wasn't in the squad that faced AFC Wimbledon at the weekend, with Hill's side claiming a last-ditch point in a 2-2 draw.

Hill said: "It’s unfortunate, to be perfectly honest, especially with Liam, he had a fracture of his collarbone and we didn’t realise but there was a collision in the first week back in training and he did his other one, in a challenge with Thibaud."

With his loan deal at the University of Bolton Stadium expiring in January, Bridcutt will be desperate to get back to full fitness and fight for an extended deal at Bolton.

It is likely that they will extend his loan deal given his importance to the team, but if he continues to pick up injury problems, then Wanderers' stance may well change.
