Leyton Orient have taken the decision to sack head coach Carl Fletcher after less than a month in charge, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

Fletcher left his role on the Bournemouth coaching staff to take on the Orient job back in October, but it now appears his time at the Brisbane Road helm has reached an abrupt conclusion with his reported sacking.

The 39-year-old replaced interim boss Ross Embleton in the Orient hot seat, but results have been poor since his appointment with the League Two club having failed to collect a single victory during his brief time in charge.

Fletcher saw his side get thrashed 4-0 by Plymouth in his first match in charge before they collected their first point of his tenure against Carlisle, but it now appears their recent FA Cup embarrassment at the hands of Maldon & Tiptree has signalled curtains for the Welshman.

Orient are sitting 16th in the fourth-tier table at the time of Fletcher's departure, with all of their five league wins this season having come before the former Argyle boss was given the job on October 16th.

The Verdict

This news comes as a huge surprise given the short period Fletcher has held the managerial post at Orient, but the board have clearly come to the conclusion that they made a mistake with the appointment.

The newly-promoted side had not been doing too badly before under Embleton before Fletcher came in, but the Welshman's arrival has had the opposite effect to what was intended with the FA Cup being a particularly low point.

Nevertheless, it is a bold call for Orient to show Fletcher the exit door before he has really had a chance to turn the club's fortunes around, but it also seems like a situation where there may have been problems behind the scenes.
