Leyton Orient are back in the promised land of the EFL and by Justin Edinburgh's own admission they won't be there to make up the numbers.

Orient amassed 89 points as they clinched the National League title ahead of Salford and Solihull Moors, and in doing so set a record points total.

There is no doubt that this is a memorable O's team and will be looked back on with fond memories. If they go one step further and return to League One after five years away, many of those players will become icons.

And there is no reason why they shouldn't challenge this season.

Macauley Bonne may steal the headlines on occasion, but his striking partner Josh Koroma is the real gem in the team.

He provides the spark to Orient's attack and at 20 years of age is surely destined for a stellar Football League career, and perhaps more.

Young defenders Marvin Ekpiteta and Dan Happe were also worthy of a place in the National League team of the season, but it was Josh Coulson who was given that honour.

What is certain is Orient have an impervious defence, having conceded just 35 league goals and notching up 23 clean sheets in all competitions - a joint club record.

The club has all the foundations in place. It is vital they keep ahold of the aforementioned key players, but also Edinburgh.

Orient fans received good news last week in the form of captain Jobi McAnuff signing on for another year at the age of 37.

He may be coming towards the end of his career but it does not seem that way.

He is as energetic as ever, and gives his all every match - it is his kind of winning determination that was the real success behind promotion.

There are weaknesses, however.

Particularly in midfield where Orient have been crying out for a ball-winning midfielder since Ebou Adams opted to join Ebbsfleet, rather than make his loan permanent at Brisbane Road last summer.

Orient must also improve their strength in depth.

Only Bonne and Koroma are good enough of starting regularly in League Two.

Matt Harrold offers an alternative from the bench but at 34 he would struggle to start on a weekly basis.

Meanwhile James Alabi has been transfer listed after failing to cement a place in the squad all season.
