Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien heaped praise on coaching pair Danny and Nicky Cowley, attributing his recent success to them.

O’Brien has burst onto the scene at the John Smith’s Stadium this season after spending last year on-loan at Bradford City. The 21-year-old has been a revelation in midfield for new manager Danny Cowley.

Danny and his brother Nicky Cowley were appointed at Huddersfield in early September with the side in free-fall following their relegation from the Premier League.

The pair came in with the intention of steadying the ship at Huddersfield and stopping the rot that essentially began at the start of their ill-fated Premier League campaign last term. Since their appointment, Huddersfield have been transformed.

Their surge out of the relegation zone has been a team effort, with every first-team player raising their game and playing with much more confidence and vigour of late. One player who has been especially important to this run has been energetic midfielder Lewis O’Brien.

The youngster has starred in attacking midfield, providing some much-needed impetus to a side that struggled to get going this season.

Huddersfield’s next fixture is a home tie against Birmingham City and O’Brien spoke to the club’s official site ahead of the clash, singing the praises of the new coaching pair and how their impact has transformed O’Brien. He said: “Danny and Nicky have brought out what’s best in me.

“They’ve been helping on my attacking side which is helping me become a better player and the team.

“They’ve given us something to buy into; its one team thinking.”

The Verdict

It is obvious that the Cowley brothers have had a huge impact already for the Terriers in such a short space of time and Lewis O’Brien is a prime example of that.

The youngster has shown great enthusiasm in the face of testing times at Town and is reaping the rewards of perseverance.

Huddersfield will be looking to build on their current fine run of form and bounce back from the Preston defeat with a win against a stuttering Birmingham side.
