Reading edged closer to Championship survival with a well-earned 1-1 draw with Bristol City on Good Friday.

The Royals took the lead on the day, with Yakou Meite finishing off a training-ground free-kick routine, before Josh Brownhill headed home to rescue the Robins a point.

This result means that Reading are now five points clear of the relegation zone and could confirm their status as a Championship club for next season with a win over West Brom on Monday.

Reading midfielder, Lewis Baker took to Instagram following the draw and the Madejski Stadium faithful will be delighted with his caption.

The Berkshire-based side have looked like a completely different team since Jose Gomes took charge as Paul Clement's successor, and he's certainly changed their fortunes for the better.

Baker in particular has stood out for the Royals since signing from Chelsea in January and he'll be hoping that he can finish the job by confirming their status as a Championship club before the season is up.

The midfielder is on loan from Chelsea after cutting short his loan spell with Leeds in order to move to Jose Gomes' side earlier this year.

Baker and his Reading team-mates are next in action when they take on promotion-chasing, West Brom at the Madejski Stadium in an eagerly-anticipated clash for both sets of supporters.

The Verdict:

What a player he has been for the Royals.

Baker has played a starring role in the recent turnaround for Reading and without him and the other loanees, I wouldn't have been confident of the Royals surviving this season.

This point at Bristol City could be the difference between staying up and being relegated for Reading.
