Leeds United's Lewis Baker issued a confident message to fans after the club's 4-3 loss against Oxford United last night.

Baker, a pre-season loan signing from Premier League giants Chelsea, scored as a youthful Whites side lost to Oxford last night.

After the game he spoke to the Yorkshire Evening Post's Phil Hay, with a confident message for fans ahead of their clash with Stoke City on August 4th.

“By the time the first game comes we’ll be ready for it. There’s still 10 days, two weeks before the season starts so yeah, we’ll be ready.

Baker said the new manager was calm at half time, his words sparking a comeback from 3-0 down to the final score of 4-3.

“He just said we needed to get involved more in the physical battles and not let them have so much of the ball. Intensity is what we were lacking.”

Baker spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, but only made six Championship starts for Tony Pulis.

The 23-year-old has previously enjoyed loan spells with MK Dons, Sheffield Wednesday and Vitesse Arnhem.

The Verdict

The players may well be ready for the new season, but will the squad?

Tyler Roberts goal last night gave them hope that maybe he could come good, with Baker also on the score sheet there were positive to take from the youthful side's defeat.

Whether the full squad will have enough quality in ten day's time is another question altogether.
