After well establishing themselves as a Championship side again after their promotion from League One in 2012, Stuart Gray and Sheffield Wednesday were looking to build towards assembling a squad capable of pushing well up the table.

A comfortable lower mid-table finish was accepted in the 2013/14 season, but there was a growing expectation among the fans for them to be pushing towards the top six of the division.

15 new faces were brought to Hillsborough during the summer window including the likes of Lewis McGugan, Keiren Westwood, Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Royston Drenthe.

But one man made the switch across Yorkshire with centre-back Tom Lees making the switch from Leeds United on a free transfer.

This is FLW Rewind, where we take a look back at an iconic decision made by a Football League club, analyse the initial reaction and see how things panned out.

Lees did not exactly arrive at Sheffield Wednesday with a lot of fanfare.

The defender had a reputation from his time at Elland Road for being error-prone and the Whites were not exactly sad to see him go.

However, the vast majority of Wednesday fans felt he should be given a chance. He was still only 23 at the time after all and having arrived on a free transfer there was not a lot to be angry about...

It was faith that turned out to be very well placed in the end.

He instantly became an integral member of the Wednesday starting XI and made 44 appearances in his first season with the club.

In fact, barring two matches against Ipswich Town and Cardiff City in September, he played every second of every game for the Owls that season.

It is a theme that he has continued throughout every season since, becoming a pivotal team member and a fans' favourite at the same time.

In total, he has made 169 appearances for the club and proving that the faith shown in him by the fans at the start of his spell was very well placed.
