Birmingham City moved to within two points of safety as Steve Cotterill’s men saw off Leeds United at St Andrew’s.
The Whites entered the game full of confidence following five wins from their past six games, but Jacques Maghoma’s late strike ensured the three points remained in the West Midlands.
The Blues looked a rejuvenated unit following having been defeated comprehensively by Norwich City on Boxing Day, and dominated the visitors for large spells of the game.
Cotterill may have finally found the right formula, with the former Nottingham Forest boss having failed to inspire his talented squad following his arrival earlier in the season.
Large sections of the home crowd had called for the manager’s head in recent weeks following Birmingham’s slide to the bottom of the table, but Cotterill may have bought himself some time ahead of Tuesday’s trip to mid-table Reading.
The Royals are in a bad run of form having gone five without a win, and Cotterill will fancy his chances of nicking a result at The Madejski Stadium.
Blues fans took to Twitter to have their say on the priceless win over Leeds…
