Former Leeds United player Noel Whelan has claimed that Liverpool winger Harvey Elliott's loan move to Blackburn Rovers should suit all parties perfectly.

Elliott joined Rovers on a season-long loan on the final day of the summer transfer window, and has already made a big impression at Ewood Park.

After an impressive debut in a 3-1 defeat at Watford last Wednesday, the 17-year-old then registered his first senior goal and assist in Rovers' 4-0 away at Coventry on Saturday, and Whelan has clearly been impressed by what he has seen from the teenager.

Speaking to Football Insider about Elliot's move, the ex-striker said: “When you have got a player is of that age, there is nothing better than getting him first team action in a very competitive league like the Championship.

“Blackburn is the perfect place for him, not far from Liverpool and with a good manager at the helm in Tony Mowbray. The style of play will suit Elliott and Liverpool. Blackburn are a a good footballing side."

It also seems as though Whelan believes the move will fit work well for Liverpool, as he explained: “It is not far for Liverpool to keep tabs and go and watch him. That is what it is all about when you are trying to bring these young players through. Let’s not forget that he is still very, very young."

Assessing Elliott's performances so far, it seems Whelan is already predicting a big future at Anfield for the teenager, as he went on to add: “He is bringing the Championship to light. What a dream start. A goal and an assist.
“He has nothing to prove to Liverpool because they know how good he is. They are just nurturing his progression. There is no doubt about it, he will have a lot more games to play for Liverpool if he carries on this way.”
Elliott will once again be looking to make an impact for Blackburn on Tuesday night, when they host league leaders Reading at Ewood Park.
The Verdict
It has been a hugely impressive start to his time with Blackburn for Elliott.
The winger has wasted no time in settling in at Ewood Park, and his recent performances are extremely promising for his future prospects.
That he has been able to adapt to regular first-team football so quickly bodes well for his ability to cope with pressure further forward in his career, his potential to improve to Premier League in the future.
Add to that the fact that the opportunities he is getting with Blackburn, with a team located in close proximity to Liverpool, should help the reigning Premier League champions keep tabs on the winger, and you feel they will already be pleased with what they have seen from the teenager.
