Leeds United have hit a spell of good form in the Sky Bet Championship, with Thomas Christiansen’s side picking up 10 points from five fixtures, which has moved them back into play-off contention.

The Whites welcome Norwich City to Elland Road on Saturday, with the contest already shaping up to be an intriguing match-up, with the EFL’s match official appointments even causing controversy.

The Yorkshire Evening Post have confirmed that James Mainwaring has been appointed as the matchday assistant, less than a month after he controversially awarded Middlesbrough a penalty in their 2-1 defeat at Elland Road.

Leeds were seemingly in control of that contest against Middlesbrough thanks to goals from Pablo Hernandez and Ezgjan Alioski, but Mainwaring’s decision to award a penalty against Luke Ayling, despite the Leeds defender finding himself on the receiving end of a foul from Daniel Ayala just seconds earlier, made it a cagey afternoon for the Whites.

Mainwaring made himself the villain of Elland Road that afternoon, with Leeds’ supporters less than impressed with the official’s performance.
