‘Lets be honest, this is risky’ – Newcastle eyeing striker transfer deal with Midlands side: The verdict

Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia, according to the Express and Star.

Would the injury-prone 28-year-old be a wise addition for Rafa Benitez’s side? Or should they avoid?

We discuss….

Chris Gallagher

Not at all.

Kodjia has been hit with two serious injuries in the past 18 months and hasn’t looked the same player. His goal record last season was actually quite poor and I’d have doubts about him in the top-flight.

Jay Williams

Newcastle fans will once again be underwhelmed by these transfer rumours.

Although Kodjia has been good for Aston Villa, he has never quite recovered from his long-term injury problems and he is not going to be an upgrade on Dwight Gayle, Ayoze Perez, Joselu or Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Magpies are better off looking elsewhere.

Alfie Burns

I’m not sure that Kodjia is an upgrade on what Newcastle have already.

Rafa Benitez has been linked with Salomon Rondon, and for me, I think he’s the better option for the Magpies this summer.

I’d be leaving this one alone.

Gary Hutchinson

Lets be honest, this is risky.

He brings goals, I’m not entirely sure he’s PL ready but let’s face it, Newcastle aren’t a buying powerhouse are they? They shop in the Championship, not the PL.
