Nottingham Forest suffered a comfortable defeat at play-off chasing Millwall on Friday, in a loss that has epitomised the Reds' season.

Inconsistency and coming second-best has been a constant theme of the campaign and manager Aitor Karanka has it all to do in the summer months if he is to alter the negative philosophy that appears to have engulfed the club for much of the campaign.

However, despite managerial casualties this season in the form of Mark Warburton, it is clear it is not just the men making the decisions of the side lines who at fault for the failure.

This trio have been a particular disappointment on the field...

The 35-year-old's output hasn't been to the required standard this season with just seven league goals to his name, and it can't help but be felt that if the player had taken a few more of the chances that dropped his way then the club's position would be much healthier.

The Irishman will admit he would have liked to have found the net more often, but going into the summer the striking position will certainly be a priority.

Murphy is approaching the final few years of his career and if he wants to maintain his stay at this level then he must begin to produce.

The Greek has received praise for several of his workman-like performances, but the consistency that he has put in a solid shift has been extremely low.

Having played at a high level, Vellios should be scoring goals on a regular basis in the second-tier but he is a long way down the pecking order at The City Ground.

He is obviously not a part of Karanka's long-term vision for the club and will more than likely be moved on when the summer overhaul begins.

The defender has been with the Reds for many years, but his time is coming to a close with his contract due to expire in the coming months.

Hardly seeing the pitch this semester, some may consider Cohen to have been a little disappointing in what is likely to be his final season in the East Midlands, especially considering the fact he knew he was set to play for his future given his contract situation.

A long-term servant of the club with many wonderful memories, Cohen has been a peripheral and disappointing figure at The City Ground.
