Nottingham Forest sit in ninth position in the Sky Bet Championship table, having had a mixed season thus far.

Things are finally starting to look stable for Forest after a turbulent few years which has seen them make a number of mistakes.

Though, what has been Forest's most expensive mistake?

We take a look...

Adam Simeoni

Anybody remember Djamel Abdoun?

The Algerian arrived for a fee just shy of £2 million in 2013, but made just 22 appearances for the club in a two-year spell.

Failing to reach the heights he did in Greece with Olympiacos, Abdoun was quickly given the boot from the City Ground.

Chris Gallagher

You have to go with Pierre van Hooijdonk.

The Dutch forward was a record buy for the club at the time and didn't deliver in the Premier League.

He scored goals for fun in the First Division but that's not why Forest paid the big money for him.

And, lets be honest, his attitude at times was awful.

George Dagless

The Fawaz era.

I like to think he meant well but so many financial blunders were made as Forest went from play-off contenders to relegation battlers.

Things look to have picked up in recent months now there are new owners in place, too, underlining his negative impact.

Alfie Burns

Pierre van Hooijdonk is Forest’s second most expensive player in their history, but failed to live up to expectation in the Premier League.

The Dutch striker was signed from Celtic, but never hit the heights expected of him in the top-flight, scoring just seven goals.

Van Hooijdonk enjoyed a successful spell with Forest in the old First Division (Championship) scoring over 30 goals and firing the club back into the Premier League, but ultimately he could not deliver on the stage Forest needed him to.

Forest’s supporters will remember his heroics in their promotion campaign of 1997/98, but will not be able to forget how he flopped in the Premier League.
