Bolton Wanderers have released a statement on their club website officially confirming that the club has been placed in administration.

The Trotters have endured a tumultuous season of financial difficulty, with this news arriving after the club appeared in the High Court last week over an unpaid tax bill.

This latest development means Ken Anderson is no longer in charge of the club, with Paul Appleton and Asher Miller of David Rubin & Partners having been appointed joint administrators.

The club will now face a 12-point deduction when they begin life in League One next season, with this news making Bolton the first EFL club in six years to enter administration.

It had previously appeared former Watford owner Laurence Bassini would take over at the club, but his deal fell through when he failed to provide proof of funds to the EFL.

This has eventually led to the club's administration, which was confirmed by the club on Monday afternoon.

Bolton fans were quick to respond to the announcement, with many sharing their mixed feelings over the news as the club can start looking to the future.
