Director of Football Les Ferdinand has stated that Queens Park Rangers are heading in the right direction again after a tricky few years off the pitch.

QPR haven't been in the race for promotion this season, and have been inconsistent throughout the current campaign. They sit in 16th place in the Championship and aren't in any danger of relegation.

The club haven't just suffered on the pitch, and ever since their relegation from the Premier League, QPR's finances have always been a key talking point. In 2018, they breached the Financial Fairplay rules and accepted a transfer ban.

According to Ferdinand, the club are now on the right track and expressed that QPR had to take a number of steps backwards into to then progress forward as a club once more.

Speaking to FourFourTwo (via the PA News Agency), Ferdinand said: "We have not really contested going up and getting promoted, and I think people understand the reasons for that.

"There are some supporters who won’t understand it, because they want us to compete, but there are a lot of people who understand we had to take a couple of steps backwards before we go forwards again.

"We would like to think we are taking steps in the right direction again now."

The Verdict

It was well documented how bad the finances were at the club, and it's interesting to hear Ferdinand talk about it and open up about the way he knew QPR couldn't fight for promotion.

It's important for clubs to be run in the right way, because when that happens it often reciprocates on the pitch with good performances.

The R's are now moving in the right direction and have some really good young players that can help them in the coming years with performances on the pitch.

The future is bright again at QPR, and the supporters must be patient with the club on the pitch.
