Leon Dajaku opened his account for Sunderland in their 5-0 thrashing of Cheltenham Town on Tuesday evening.
The 20-year-old is currently on a season-long loan at the Stadium of Light from Union Berlin and will be looking for some valuable experience to take back to Germany. Dajaku has been used as a second half impact substitute in the last two matches and Lee Johnson will be hoping he can continue to affect games from the bench as the season progresses.
The Black Cats sit top of the tree in League One after Wigan Athletic lost at home to Sheffield Wednesday, the tougher test is staying there but the strength in depth Dajaku provides should stand them in good stead.
The German took to Instagram to share what was a special moment and emphatic strike on Tuesday evening.
He wrote: “Unbelievable feeling.”

An inch perfect strike into the top corner just five minutes after being introduced in the place of talismanic creator Aiden McGeady made it 5-0 on the night and should lift a weight off of Dajaku’s shoulders moving forward.
Next up is a trip to the South Coast to take on regular play-off contenders Portsmouth.
Have Sunderland ever been involved in any of these 18 scenarios?
There is intense competition for places in Lee Johnson’s squad at the moment so Dajaku will need to carry on grabbing his opportunities. The 20-year-old provides a bit of a wildcard threat for the Black Cats and therefore with McGeady such an established player at the club it is likely the German will remain on the fringes for the majority of the campaign.
McGeady will turn 36 in April and is not going to be made to play three times a week so the midweek fixtures may be Dajaku’s greatest opportunity to shine. With some harrowing near misses in recent years it is crucial that Johnson has strength in depth to ensure the Black Cats can sustain their automatic promotion push and that is where Dajaku will be a valuable contributor.
