Leeds United were forced to settle for a point against Cardiff City at the weekend, as Marcelo Bielsa's side threw away a three-goal lead at Elland Road.

One player that was impressive in the draw for Leeds though was Helder Costa, who continued his strong run of form heading into the festive period.

The 25-year-old netted his third goal of the season just six minutes into the game against the Bluebirds, and will be hoping to add to that tally as the season progresses.

There were high hopes for Costa when he first arrived at Elland Road on loan from Wolves (ahead of a permanent move in the summer of 2020), but he struggled to replicate the form he had previously shown at Wolves.

The winger netted 12 goals and was on hand to provide 11 assists as they impressed in the Championship during the 2016/17 season.

One former Wolves player that certainly benefitted from Costa's assists was Leo Bonatini, who was quick to praise the midfielder after his recent showing against Cardiff after Costa's recent post on Instagram.

Bonatini is now playing his football with Portuguese side Vitória de Guimarães and has five goals to his name in 15 appearances so far this season.

Costa and his Leeds team-mates will be keen to get back to winning ways this weekend when they take on Fulham, in what could turn out to be a season-defining game for both sides at Craven Cottage as they look to return to the Premier League.

The Verdict:

He's starting to prove his worth for Leeds at the perfect time.

Costa will know that he didn't hit the heights that were originally expected of him early into his stay at Elland Road, but he's making up for that now.

He's shown confidence on the ball, and his pace and trickery make him a defender's nightmare to come up against.

It's good to see Bonatini praising the winger for his recent contribution, and this will only add to his confidence heading into the second-half of this year's campaign.
