Brentford have had an approach for goalkeeper Daniel Iversen rejected by Premier League Leicester City, Sky Sports have reported.

The Bees are keen to add at least one goalkeeper to their side in the current transfer window, with Daniel Bentley having already left the club to join Championship rivals Bristol City and Luke Daniels set to enter the final 12 months of his contract at Griffin Park.

It is another Championship goalkeeper, Blackburn's David Raya, who is thought to remain still be Brentford's first choice option to bring in to fill that goalkeeping spot, but Rovers are said to want £4million for the Spaniard, while Brentford are reluctant to pay over £3million. As a result, the London club are assessing alternative options.

Iversen appears to have been one of those options, although Brentford have reportedly been told by Leicester that they want to keep the 21-year-old at the King Power Stadium, as they see him as a prospect for the future.

The Dane spent last season on loan in League Two with Oldham Athletic, where he made appearances in all competitions.

Iversen has yet to make his senior debut for Leicester, although he does have two years remaining on his contract with the former Premier League champions.

The verdict

I'm not sure about this one for Brentford.

In comparison to Raya, who has been Rovers' first choice 'keeper for the past two season in League One and then the Championship, Iversen has had just that one season in League Two as a first team regular.

You wonder therefore whether he will be ready to take on the trials and tribulations of a goalkeeper at Championship level, particularly with a side who will be looking to push towards the upper end of the table next season.

Even so, it should be encouraging for Brentford fans to see that their side is already exploring alternative options to Raya in case their move for the Spaniard ultimately falls through.
