Charlton Athletic have clinched promotion to the Championship after seeing off Sunderland with a last-minute winner in the League One play-off final.

With the scores level at 1-1, the match looked to be heading for extra time before Charlton defender Patrick Bauer poked home a rebound in front of the Charlton supporters to send the Addicks up.

Lee Bowyer's side had initially fallen behind when Naby Sarr scored an embarrassing own goal after Dillon Phillips failed to control the defender's back-pass. But Ben Purrington then pulled one back for Charlton in the first half before Bauer struck late on.

Bauer has been a regular at the heart of Charlton's defence this season, but his 94th-minute strike was his first goal of the season for the Addicks.

The German took to Twitter after the match to share a message following Charlton's second-tier return:

Plenty of Charlton fans responded to this post in adoration of the 26-year-old, as they tried convincing him to extend his stay at The Valley.

The defender made 39 appearances for Bowyer's side this term, but there are question marks surrounding his future with his four-year deal set to expire in June.
