Manchester United's move for Swansea City winger Daniel James has been welcomed by Sir Alex Ferguson, with the legendary former manager said to be a fan of the player.

That's according to Football Insider, who claim a United source has explained just how impressed Ferguson has been with the 21-year-old.

"Sir Alex is a massive admirer of Dan James and convinced he is destined for big things. He would never say that publicly and put too much pressure on him but he has been impressed by the kid.

"He doesn’t get too involved in our recruitment but he’s certainly excited by the signing of Dan James."

The speedy winger has enjoyed a real breakthrough campaign for the Swans, with former boss Graham Potter giving the youngster a lot of responsibility.

He responded by scoring five goals and registering ten assists in what was a very productive campaign.

And, that form caught the eye, with several top-flight sides showing an interest in James but it appears the Red Devils will win the race to land the Wales international.

The Verdict

This is the sort of signing that United would've made under Ferguson, as he was always keen to bring in a highly-rated youngster with a lot of potential.

That's exactly what James is and his direct, explosive style of play fits in with United's history of wingers.

It's a transfer that seems as though it will happen in the coming weeks and it will be a great chance for the Swansea man who is ready to make the big step up.
