Leeds would be securing the bargain of the summer if they seal this deal

The attack at Elland Road is going to need a significant boost if Leeds are to improve on their mediocre 13th place finish.

One name that has been heavily linked to the Yorkshire club is Abel Hernandez. The Uruguayan striker has confirmed that he is leaving Hull City this summer and will be available on a free transfer.

In Hernandez’s last season in the Championship, he netted eight times in his ten appearances as he battled an Achilles injury that ruled him out for six months. This rich scoring vein was reminiscent of his 2015/16 season when he scored 20 goals to fire Hull to the Premier League. There is no doubting his pedigree.

Such a proven goal-scorer is hard to come by in the Championship. Additionally, they usually arrive with a hefty price tag that blows most of the club’s transfer budget. Indeed, Hull bought him for £10 million in 2014. Signing him on a free transfer would be a serious coup.

This potential bargain will inevitably draw plenty of attention. Should a Premier League side come knocking, it is difficult to see what Leeds could offer to guarantee his signature. However, this is unlikely to be a saga that lasts the entire summer. Leeds can afford to spend time going after him now. They will be safe in the knowledge that if they fail, there will be plenty of time to chase other targets. For now, though, they should be chasing the bargain of the summer.
