Leeds United can now start gearing up for a play-off campaign after seeing their slim automatic promotion hopes come to an end following their 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.

The Whites' failure to beat Dean Smith's side meant Sheffield United sealed their place in the top two, as the Blades maintained their five-point lead over their Yorkshire rivals.

Marcelo Bielsa will have some difficult selections to make ahead of the first play-off semi-final, with his side currently in a disappointing run of form.

It has been suggested the Argentine could turn to Leeds' youngsters to aid their promotion push, especially seeing as the Under-23s side won the Professional Development League this season.

One of those players is Mateusz Bogusz, who was signed from Ruch Chorzow in January, and his inclusion among the substitutes on Sunday suggests he is edging closer to a first-team appearance.

The midfielder has been excellent for Carlos Corberan's Under-23s side by displaying his incisive attacking qualities, and he could well be Leeds' secret weapon in the play-offs.

However, the Polish Under-19 international will be disappointed to have not made it off the bench on Sunday, with Leeds now having little to play for until the play-offs.

The 17-year-old must now be pushing hard to impress Bielsa ahead of Sunday, where Leeds face Ipswich Town in their final match of the regular Championship season.

Bielsa will be open to making squad changes ahead of this clash, in order to ensure his key players are fully fit for the play-offs. This is therefore a vital week for Bogusz, as he could go some way to staking his place in his manager's thinking ahead of the all-important semi-final.
