Leeds United's under-23 side recorded a 6-0 win over Watford in the Professional Development League on Monday night.

Plenty of first-team players featured for the Whites after failing to start against Barnsley at the weekend, with Eddie Nketiah scoring a brace against the Hornets after his goal against the Tykes on Sunday.

The night also gave the chance for both Luke Ayling and Tyler Roberts to get invaluable minutes under their belts, as they continue to recover from a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Both players got on the scoresheet along with Pascal Struijk and Robbie Gotts, securing an impressive win for the under-23s at Elland Road.

After the game, Roberts took to Instagram to express his delight at being back on the pitch at Elland Road, with the 20-year-old scoring from the penalty spot in the second-half.

The former West Brom attacker was an unused substitute in the win over Barnsley at Oakwell, but he will be hoping to make his first appearance of the season against Derby County next weekend.

Marcelo Bielsa's side are now back on top of the Championship after their win over the Tykes at the weekend.

The Verdict

It would have been a massive relief for Roberts to play at Elland Road on Monday night - it has been a frustrating spell on the sidelines for him.

He came up leaps and bounds under Bielsa last season, especially in the second-half of the campaign where he was used more as an attacking midfielder.

Having him back available will be a massive boost for the Whites, and it adds competition for places which can only be beneficial.

Saturday might come too soon for him, but Leeds have enough quality to cause Derby problems.
