Phil Hay, the Yorkshire Evening Post’s chief football writer, tweeted a quote from Leeds United’s latest signing Jay-Roy Grot earlier on today.

The 19-year-old stated “This is a big step in my career. It was my dream to play in England and so to do that at a club like Leeds is really exciting”.

Grot’s move to United has been speculated for some time now with the final deal reportedly in the region of around £1.5 million.

This deal comes after the sale of the Championship’s top scorer last season Chris Wood, in a £15 million move to Premier League club Burnley.

The big forward, who only turned professional two years ago, has been touted as a hot prospect amongst many big clubs in Europe and has been given the number 11 shirt upon his arrival in Yorkshire.

The Verdict

The youngster is certainly going to win over his fair share of fans with his comments, even before he’s kicked a ball for the club.

It looks like rather than splashing the cash on one big signing to replace Wood, Christiansen is being more conservative with the money and bringing in a host of smaller signings.

Only time will tell if that works out but given that Italian club Fiorentina were scouting Grot earlier on this year, it is clear the kid has some quality.

If the 19-year-old can fit into the English style of play quickly then this could prove to be a top signing for the club.
