Leeds United January signing Jean-Kevin Augustin has sent messages to his former clubs RB Leipzig and AS Monaco after making the switch to Elland Road.

The Yorkshire club announced today that they had signed Augustin on loan from Leipzig until the end of the season, with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.

The winter transfer window ends on Friday and it was beginning to look like the Whites may not be able to find a replacement for Eddie Nketiah in time.

However, to the relief of Leeds supporters, they have got their man and the focus can now turn to ensure they end their 16-year absence from the Premier League this year.

Augustin will want to play a key role in that and looking further ahead, potentially in the English top flight.

This could be just the beginning for the Frenchman, who took to Twitter to exchange messages with his former clubs.

Augustin has scored 20 goals and provided eight assists since arriving at RB Leipzig in 2017.

Though they remain his parent club and his time there is not necessarily over, they wished him good luck at Leeds.

The 22-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at AS Monaco, featuring 11 times and scoring once.

Despite ending his loan there early, the French club were quick to wish him "good luck with this new challenge", to which Augustin replied: "Thank you for everything. Good luck at the end of the season".

The Verdict

The arrival of Augustin looks like some excellent business from the Whites and will surely be a huge relief for fans of the Yorkshire club.

The young forward has excellent pedigree, having featured for PSG, Leipzig, and Monaco, and at just 22, could be someone that has an impact for Leeds for years to come.

It will be interesting to see whether Marcelo Bielsa feels he can risk him against Millwall on Tuesday.

Noel Whelan has indicated the signing is a risk as he may have attitude issues but these exchanges seem to indicate he has great relationships with his previous clubs.
