Leeds United winger Jack Clarke has issued a frustrated verdict on Instagram after the England U20s failed to beat Italy U20s yesterday.

Clarke started for Keith Downing’s side in the U20 Elite League clash in Parma but despite two goals from Manchester United midfielder Angel Gomes, England were held to a 2-2 draw.

Thursday’s game was the 18-year-old’s third appearance for the U20s after featuring twice in the September international break, which also saw him score his first goal for the side against Switzerland U20s.

Clarke took to Instagram after the game to express his frustration at the result.

The England U20s face Czech Republic U20s at the Weston Homes Stadium on Monday evening.

Clarke has cut a frustrated figure at Elland Road this season due to the lack of first-team opportunities he has been given–with his only appearances coming in the Carabao Cup

The teenager joined Tottenham Hotspur in the summer but was sent back to Leeds on a season-long loan.

However, the Whites have six players on loan and EFL rules state a team can only have five in a matchday squad, which has left Clarke the odd man out so far.

The Verdict

In all honesty, the international break will likely have provided Clarke with some well-needed time away from the Yorkshire club, where his current situation must be a really testing one.

The 18-year-old returned there to continue his development by playing first-team football and that is simply not happening.

Spurs are reportedly set to recall Clarke in January and send him somewhere else on loan, which looks like the right move for him.
