Leeds United have not approached Brighton and Hove Albion over the availability of Oliver Norwood, despite reports linking the Whites with a move for the Premier League midfielder.

It was reported yesterday that Leeds were keen on Norwood, as they look to replace Ronaldo Vieira, who was sold last week, and Adam Forshaw, who has picked up an injury ahead of the new season.

However, according to Andy Naylor at the Brighton Argus, Brighton haven’t heard anything from Leeds, as things stand, regarding Norwood.

Norwood, 27, has back-to-back promotions from the Championship under his belt, having helped both Brighton and Fulham, who he spent last season on-loan with, into the Premier League.

During the 2016/17 campaign, Norwood made 34 appearances for Brighton, helping them win automatic promotion to the top-flight.

The Northern Irish international then spent the last year on-loan at Craven Cottage, where he made 39 Championship appearances and scored five goals, helping the Cottagers to promotion via the play-offs.

Leeds have limited options in central midfield at this stage, with Kalvin Phillips switching to centre-back and Vieira departing.

Add to that, Forshaw’s injury and Leeds have just Mateusz Klich and Lewis Baker available to play in a central role against Stoke City tomorrow.

The Verdict

The key from Naylor here is that as things stand Leeds haven’t approached Brighton, but that could all change as they step up their search for a midfielder.

Marcelo Bielsa is going to need another body in that area of the pitch, as what Leeds have isn’t going to be enough for the coming season.

They could do far worse than having a look at 27-year-old Norwood.
